Students in the Greater Accra Region have been admonished to stay committed to their studies and remain obedient to their teachers in order to harness their best potential in their course of study.
These admonishments were made by the Greater Accra Regional Director for Education, Abanfo Stephen, when he visited some schools within the Accra Metro as part of the annual My First Day at School.
The schools visited included the Prince of Peace School and the Odokor Saleria 1 Basic School.
Mr. Abanfo Stephen was joined by the Chief Director of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and the Municipal Chief Executive of Ablekuma North, who toured a couple of basic schools to welcome students who were starting school for the first time.
Some toiletries, stationery, drinks, and snacks were donated to the students to encourage them.
Mr. Abanfo underscored the importance of the exercise, which he said is to help improve student retention across the country.
“Normally, when schools reopen, we go round with the Regional Coordinating Council and the various municipal chief executives to welcome the students on the first day in those particular schools. When we also go like this, it is because we want retention. We try to give them gifts,” he said.
He also expressed satisfaction with the efforts of teachers in ensuring that children of age are brought to the schools to be given an education.
Parents were also urged to take their school-going-age children to the nearest school to be educated.
