The management of Tain District Hospital in the Bono Region has expressed fears about the possible rundown of equipment at the health center in the coming years due to its high operational cost.
The health facility laments that its centralized air conditioning system and certain power installations that consume electricity will have to be disconnected to reduce electricity consumption.
The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) recently cut off power supply to Tain District Hospital over its GH¢6.4 million debt.
Dr. Philip Taah-Amoako, the Medical Superintendent of Tain District Hospital, says that although power has been restored, urgent steps must be taken to save the health facility from collapsing.
“Considering the implications for our revenue generation, we would have wished that the government would completely subsidize the cost of our bills. Otherwise, in the next four years, we will not find the facility in the same condition as it was when it was inaugurated. We will likely have equipment rundown due to the disconnections that have been taking place.”
