The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has called on the National House of Chiefs to urgently intervene in addressing the public impasse between the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Dormaahene, Oseadeyo Osagyefo Agyemang Badu I.
Addressing the National House of Chiefs at their last meeting of the year, in Kumasi, the minister said the open disagreement between the two prominent traditional leaders is not helping the collective effort to address Chieftaincy issues in the country.
He has thus appealed to the President of the National House of Chiefs to intensify ongoing dialogue and to work with the ministry to address the issues that trigger the constant rebuttals between the two.
“I must openly admit that the seemingly public impasses between my Nananom, especially Nana Dormaahene and Asantehene, are not helping our collective effort in this regard. I hereby appeal to you, Nana President, to intensify your ongoing dialogue to bring calmness to our front and to work with me to help resolve whatever issues arise behind closed doors.”
Meanwhile, he expressed his satisfaction with working with the traditional leaders. “I am happy to mention that working with Nananom in my short time at the ministry, we have managed to resolve about 38 chieftaincy cases.”
He added that 477 chieftaincy cases are pending, and he will work tirelessly to ensure they resolve half of the cases by the end of the year. He promised to allocate the right resources to ensure that.
