Two persons have been confirmed dead after a taxi, suspected to be carrying cocoa along the Ghana-Togo border near Ahamansu Junction in the Oti Region, crashed into a motorbike carrying the two persons.
The taxi was given a hot chase by personnel from the National Security.
The fatalities, occurring on Christmas night, sparked a confrontation between community members and the security personnel, resulting in significant destruction of property.
The clash escalated with gunshots heard, causing injuries from thrown stones.
A Citi News source, who is also a reporter at Sankofa Radio in Ahamansu and was covering the situation, was reportedly brutally assaulted by community members who demanded an end to his recording of the situation.
Although the reporter stated that the situation is currently managed, concerns remain about his well-being.
