David Apasera, the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) for the 2020 elections, has expressed the party’s shared sense of relief following the suspension of General Secretary Janet Nabla.
Speaking during an interview on Eyewitness News on April 9, 2024, Apasera conveyed that his sentiments echoed those of many members within the PNC.
Apasera levelled accusations against Nabla, alleging her unilateral dismissal of all national executives elected by Congress and the establishment of her parallel administration.
He highlighted that these actions had led to significant tension within the party’s ranks.
“I wish the rank and file of the party would have gotten the opportunity to speak through your radio, you would have known the joy that people are expressing. Everybody at the party was tired of this lady hijacking the party and behaving like the party was her property.
“She sacked every national executive that was elected by Congress. How could this individual get up and sack all of them and then she had her vice. She had her youth organiser, women’s organiser and other executives and she was operating a para-administration. So, everybody was tensed.
“But I kept on telling them that they should stay put because we were going to rely on the court because that was the right thing. I didn’t want a situation where we have a violent confrontation that is wrong. Now, fortunately, the court has ruled and everybody is happy.”
