The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has clarified the recent incident involving a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker at Dadieso in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement released on May 6, 2024, the NPA confirmed that the LPG tanker which was abandoned along the road belonged to Society Nationale Burkinabe d’Hydrocarbures (SONABHY), a state-owned company responsible for fuel supply in Burkina Faso.
The incident occurred on May 3, 2024, when the tanker was transporting LPG to Burkina Faso. This led to residents demonstrating and blocking the Accra-Kumasi trunk road due to the potential danger posed by the product.
The NPA, upon learning about the situation, communicated with SONABHY and instructed them to dispatch an empty tanker and pumping vehicle to evacuate the product.
The statement further explained, that the NPA also arranged for a private company to temporarily evacuate the product while SONABHY’s empty tank and pumping vehicle arrived at the scene on May 4, 2024, and transferred the LPG.
Contrary to speculations on social media, the NPA confirmed that there were no incidents resulting in the loss of human lives or destruction of properties during the incident.
The Authority, thus, expressed gratitude to all who assisted in various ways to ensure the safe evacuation of the LPG.
