The Joint Association of Port Transport Unions-Ghana (JAPTU) has called off its sit-down strike, which was scheduled for May 6.
This follows an official notice which was released to communicate their grievances stating attacks by armed robbers, harassment by personnel in uniform, demands for illicit payments, unlawful detention and abuse as reasons for the proposed sit-down strike.
However, in a turn of events on Monday, the union in an official press release has aborted its plans of implementing the supposed strike.
In the letter, the Executive Secretary of JAPTU, Ibrahim Musah commended the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Association, Mr. Michael Achagwe Luguje, for addressing the grievances conveyed by the union in their previous official notice.
