The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold its Northern Regional elections despite the incumbent Regional Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu’s accident.
The Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale is the venue for the upcoming event which was rescheduled to Saturday, April 28, 2018.
Medical reports suggest that Daniel Bugri Naabu who is seeking reelection is physically fit for the contest.
In all, 51 aspirants are vying for various positions including Chairman, Secretary, Women’s’, Youth and Regional Organizers.
Those seeking to unseat Daniel Bugri Naabu are Mohammed A. Baantima Samba, Alhaji Abdallah Hindu, Alhaji Mugisu Sibawey and Alhaji Amadu Inusah Dagomba.
The NPP Regional Communications Director, Abdul Latif Issahaque told Citi News that all was set for the elections.
He pleaded with supporters of the aspirants to remain law abiding before, during and after the elections.
He said delegates from far away have already arrived ahead of the event.
Abdul Latif Issahaque said almost 6,000 delegates from 29 out of 31 constituencies were expected to exercise their franchise.
The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Adusei Sarpong said his outfit was adequately prepared for the elections.
He warned that security personnel to be deployed to the event would not spare troublemakers.
The regional police Chief emphasized that “This is a party affair if you have no interest joining them to observe what is going to happen to stay out. If you are interested and as a party member you want to be there go there but do comport yourselves because the security is not going to allow anybody or group of persons to misbehave.”
“We are not going to threaten or intimidate anybody, but we will not allow any group of individuals who will like to take the law into their hands to cause havoc at the elections.”
The Gambaga/Nalerigu and Yunyoo constituencies elections have been put on hold due to court injunctions.
