CalBank in partnership with UNICEF has handed over a Newborn Baby Care Unit to management of the Tafo Government Hospital in the Abuakwa North District of the Eastern Region.
The facility was equipped with three units of infant warmers, three units of LED phototherapy, and three units of Bag and Mask Resuscitator at the hospital’s Neonatal care to improve healthcare delivery.
Addressing a gathering at a short inaugural ceremony to hand over the facility, the Managing Director of CalBank, Mr. Frank Adu Jnr, said the gesture was part of the Bank’s corporate social responsibility towards lending support to improve quality health delivery in the country.
“This beautiful thing we are seeing here today is as a result of commitment and dedication of management and staff of CalBank to ensuring that Ghanaians enjoy the best healthcare delivery. The gesture, which is part of our corporate social responsibility as an organization is in response to a request from the Ghana Health Service through the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) to procure Life Care systems to manage pre-term cases and by extension, mitigate infant mortality rates in Ghana”.
“Statistics available from the Ghana Health Service indicated that, about 80 percent of death of babies reported could be preventable with the right mix of basic care facilities, and these alarming statistics however motivated the staff of the bank to contribute 50 percent of the money required, while the bank supported with the remaining 50 percent for the procurement of the facility”.
He assured CalBank’s commitment to responsibly, effectively and decisively support the Ghanaian community to enhance quality health delivery.
“The bank for the past years have sponsored and supported worthy initiatives in the health services and have participated in public projects such as construction of a theatre and surgical ward of children’s hospital and the reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns Center at Korle-Bu Teaching hospital”.
“We have also supported several foundations in the delivery of healthcare to Ghanaians and we will continue to do more for the good people of Ghana. We have faith in the management of this facility and we know they will put this facility to good use” he added.
For his part, the Medical Superintendent of the Tafo Government Hospital, Dr Joseph Tamil, commended CalBank, UNICEF and the Ghana Health Service for the establishment of the baby care unit.
“On behalf of the entire management and staff of this hospital, I want to express our profound joy for this honour done us today. This facility will help prevent maternal death and facilitate effective Healthcare. For that I assure you all because we will go the extra mile to save every life and provide quality prompt and timely healthcare to all”.
“We appreciate this gesture, and I will use this opportunity to appeal to other organizations to also learn from you and reach out to other health institutions and support them save lives”.
