Ledzokuku MP, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has said he may not be able to restrain Teshie residents if the government’s latest promise to complete the Teshie-Spintex road is not kept.
According to him, the latest deadline for work to resume on the road project is the end of March 2019.
[contextly_sidebar id=”wAKXe9z777YPutLXTu29XuFEReuVmhso”]The 7.5km road connects Teshie Lascala, Agblezaa, Manet estate through to Spintex.
The MP told Citi News a $20m contract has been awarded to a contractor “who is mobilizing to the site.”
Before this, Dr. Okoe Boye said he had given his all to ensure that the road project is completed.
Dr. Okoe Boye’s previous comments on the road came in November 2018 after some residents of Teshie Tsuibleoo demanded that work on the road be completed.
“I have done what a human being can do in terms of pursuing a project. I have explained to my constituents for close to two years… you explain to a point and you can’t go any further.”
“For the past two years that I have been in office, I have dedicated close to 50 percent of all my efforts in pursuing this road… I have told every officer in this country including His Excellency himself.”
But with a hint of frustration, he said the area could witness protests more intense than the ones in Adenta in 2018, where residents hit the streets to force the completion of footbridges.
“I have given myself to the end of the first quarter. If by the first quarter we don’t see results, all I can say is that it may be difficult to still keep my people as calm as they are. I have kept them calm for a long time.”
“If you traditionally know my people, I don’t think those in Adenta are more aggressive than my people. If you talk about aggression and being wild, those in Adenta don’t come anywhere near those in Teshie,” the MP said.
