Managers of the Accra Mall, Broll Ghana have resolved to address the concerns of tenants that led to a shutdown of shops last week.
The shops were temporarily shut down by owners due to what the tenants described as “the onerous conditions under which they operate at the mall”.
Speaking to Citi News, the lawyer for the tenants, Dr. Emmanuel Ankrah said, the said parties are expected to have a meeting to finalize the agreement.
“Almost every tenant has now joined. Before the demonstration, it was a few of them – just about 22. As we speak, about 40 of them have joined the class action. On that day, management had a meeting with them where they presented a formal way forward. The letter got to the management yesterday. We are hoping to hear from them. They are now ready to resolve the matters. If you come to the mall now, you will see that a number of better activities are going on.”
According to the tenants, they have to protect their huge investments and prevent the Accra Mall from suffering the same fate that the Westhills mall is suffering.
Lawyer of the tenants, Dr. Emmanuel Maurice Ankrah of KuukuaA Legal Consulting claimed that the exorbitant rent and the lack of promotional activities by the management of the mall to improve revenue were the reasons for his clients’ concerns.
They argued that, following a meeting with management and landlords of the mall in September, their concerns were supposed to be addressed within two weeks.
However, this did not happen which forced certain multinational investors to withdraw their investments from the mall leading to low patronage and a fall in revenue.
