There is growing concern about the activities of land guards in four communities in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Inhabitants of Bampenase Nwabiagya, Mamponteng, Adwumakase-Kese, and Abrade communities are worried about incessant attacks and the destruction of their property by some armed men who terrorize them regularly.
The residents want authorities, particularly the Manhyia Palace, to intervene and ensure that the situation does not get out of hand.
One of the victims, Augustine Saahene, told Citi News he has abandoned his property due to the attacks.
“I feel so much fear coming here to work. That is why I have abandoned the whole project.”
Mr. Saahene said he had 94 bags of cement and other materials going to waste because he has been unable to continue work on his projects.
“That is why I sent a complaint to the police that the intimidation by the land guards has caused me to abandon all my projects over here.”
“My life is even in danger,” he added.
As a next resort, he made an appeal to the Asantehene to step into the situation and mediate issues.
“I am part of all the landlords over that are suffering in the same manner. We want Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Asantehene, to come to our rescue,” he said.
