President Nana Akufo-Addo said that the New Patriotic Party will rally behind whichever candidate is chosen to lead the party into the 2024 general elections.
According to the President, the new flagbearer of the party will be able to unify the party despite a very competitive voting process.
The party is scheduled to hold its presidential elections for all party delegates in November of this year.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the Super Delegates Congress, winning with a margin of 68.15%.
Responding to a question from Citi News‘ Jude Mensa Duncan about claims that the party’s internal elections had become acrimonious and hostile, the President said that he believed the party would rally behind whichever candidate the delegates voted for.
“I believe that at the end of the day, after the competitive process, the party will coalesce around the new leader, who will be able to lead us in a unified way into the 2024 elections,” he said.
