On 14 September 2023, the Kaya ChildCare Centre (KCC) in Madina, Accra, celebrated its 4th Graduation Ceremony. The event marked a remarkable milestone, as it bore witness to the largest cohort of graduates since the inception of KCC.
Since its establishment in 2016, KCC has been unwavering in its dedication to improving the lives of children in the Madina community, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, including children of Kayayoo mothers and other market workers.
The mission of KCC is clear: to provide a brighter educational prospect for these urban-poor children. KCC believes that every child, regardless of their circumstances, deserves equal access to education. To achieve this, KCC has been working closely with their mothers, who tirelessly raise their children with limited resources.
This year’s graduation was a momentous occasion filled with pride and accomplishment. The young graduates, eight in total, all from kindergarten, took their first steps towards a brighter future. As they donned their tiny graduation gowns and caps, their smiles radiated hope and promise.
Parents of the young graduates, authors, dedicated Board Members of KCC, and well-wishers graced the ceremony with their presence. The event was chaired by Mr. Amos Odero, the Lead, Office of The Executive Director – Pan African Programs at the Mastercard Foundation. In his inspiring remarks, he emphasized, “At MCF, we believe that talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. That’s why we partner with organizations like KCC to increase opportunities for all.”
Ms. Rose Dodd, the Founder and Director of KCC, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the partners who have supported KCC’s mission to uplift children in the community. She proudly shared that children who have graduated from the centre are now thriving in primary school, a testament to the positive impact of early childhood education.
She appealed for continued support to expand the project’s reach to children nationwide.
In particular, she expressed her profound appreciation for the MasterCard Foundation’s support and the invaluable contributions of KCC’s Board Members, both technically and financially.
Madam Evelyn Kwofie, Manager of the Centre, closed the ceremony with words of appreciation for parents. She recognized the efforts parents make to ensure their children receive an education, highlighting the crucial role parents play in shaping their children’s futures.
The graduation ceremony was not just about speeches and accolades; it was a celebration of the children’s talents. The young graduates captivated the audience with their performances, showcasing their skills and creativity. Their joyful dances and heartwarming songs filled the air with hope and optimism, reminding everyone of the transformative power of education.
The Kaya ChildCare Centre is grateful for the support of its partners, the dedication of its staff, and the unwavering love of parents. As it looks forward to the future, KCC remains resolute in its mission to provide every child with the opportunity to shine and succeed, irrespective of their circumstances.
