Ghanaian-owned cable and conductor manufacturer, Tropical Cable and Conductor Limited has made a priceless pledge and commitment to providing all the cable needs of the resettlement centres Citi FM/Citi TV is constructing for people affected by the Akosombo dam spillage.
A delegation from the cable manufacturer made the pledge on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday.
Head of Distribution at the company, Kwame Opoku Mensah, told Bernard Avle that it is the least the company can do to lessen the plight of the people affected by the spillage.
Mr. Mensah indicated that the situation is not a matter of companies and institutions performing their corporate social responsibilities, but that the extent of the damage caused by the Dam’s spillage makes it a civic responsibility for Ghanaians to pool resources together to ensure the affected people get their lives back and that their sacrifice to provide Ghanaians with electricity must not go unnoticed.
“There is work to be done, and we are all aware of the situation. This is beyond corporate social responsibility; it is a civic responsibility. Because we want to contribute our quota, we are here to help, and the work has just begun. It is when everything stops and the water recedes that we will be able to know the extent of the true work that needs to be done.”
“People are suffering just because we want to enjoy electricity, and people must come on board to help these people who are affected by the spillage. We want to come with you and provide all the cable needs. We cannot sit back and see people sacrifice for us to have electricity and they themselves do not have electricity.”
He added that the company is donating an additional GH¢10,000 to help with any other logistical mobilization.
Citi FM/Citi TV is embarking on the next phase of its #Relief4LowerVolta campaign for the affected persons with its “OperationRebuild” project, which seeks to put up facilities to help resettle people displaced by the Dam spillage.
