The Ministry of Education has assured that it is working quickly to ensure that students affected by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam resume academic activities.
Led by the Deputy Minister of Education, the Ministry toured the affected areas to assess the disruption caused to the education sector by the dam’s spillage.
In the North Tongu District, the Ghana Education Service revealed that over 14,000 students have had their academics disrupted.
In an interview with Citi News, the Deputy Minister of Education, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, said that the Ministry would explore all options to assist the students.
“We are in a hurry to ensure that the distress situation that our friends and compatriots in the Volta Region are facing is turned around into a story that will be remembered tomorrow as a negative thing occasioning a positive turnaround,” he said. “And so we are with our people in such times. Education is one area that is the hardest hit when such disasters occur, so the Minister is poised to ensure that education does not suffer.”
