The Member of Parliament for Hohoe, John Peter Amewu, has filed processes to arrest the ruling of the High Court in Ho in a matter that seeks to prevent him from holding himself out as the MP for Hohoe.
Five Ghanaians hailing from Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi had petitioned the high court in Ho seeking a declaration, among other things, to nullify the election of John Peter Amewu as a member of Parliament for Hohoe.
The petitioners claim that the 2020 election held in Hohoe denied residents of the SALL enclave their fundamental right to vote to elect a representative, and further denied them representation in the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
After an order of substituted service on John Peter Amewu made on October 16, 2023, Mr. Amewu, for the first time, had representation in court today, December 21, 2023.
Lawyer for Peter Amewu, Benedict Kofitse, filed several processes on behalf of the Second Respondent, John Peter, to the effect of contesting the ruling of the court and seeking leave to enter a defense.
Mr. Amewu, through his lawyer, proposed January 22, 2024, to move their motions, but the lawyer for the petitioners, Tsatsu Tsikata, objected to it and asked the court to consider the duration of the case and the injustice being suffered by the petitioners to expedite the case.
The court agreed with the petitioners, directing lawyers for Mr. Amewu to file an answer to the petition today, December 21, 2023, and appear on January 9, 2024, to move his application to contest the judgment of the court.
The court effectively admitted the request of John Peter Amewu to enter a defense.
The court was scheduled to make a judgment following admissions made by the Lawyer for the EC, Sekyi Boampong, regarding a few errors in the events leading to the 2020 elections regarding the clashes CIs 95, 112, and 128.
