AFC Bournemouth manager, Andoni Iraola, says the decision to substitute Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo had nothing to do with injury.
He stated this in a post-game press conference following Bournemouth’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League.
Semenyo lasted 45 minutes in the contest and was replaced by Marcus Tavernier, with teammate Ryan Christie forced off due to injury in the 56th minute.
Asked whether Semenyo’s substitution was due to a suspected injury like Ryan Christie’s, Iraola confirmed that was not the case.
“No injury. It was a technical decision. He could have continued” Iraola said in connection to the Ghana forward who is back in action for The Cherries after featuring in Ghana’s 2023 AFCON campaign in Cote D’Ivoire.
Ghana crashed out of the 2023 AFCON without registering a win, with Semenyo missing out on scoring a goal in his debut run in the continental championship.
Semenyo has bagged three goals and two assists in 18 league appearances in the 2023-2024 season.
