369 female farmers have received 3, 800 bags of free fertilizers to enable them to overcome their difficulties to increase production of food crops.
The beneficiaries include 21 physically challenged female farmers.
The gesture which is under the “Grow Ghana Initiative” by Yara Ghana Company Limited also is to ensure sustainability of food production as well as profitability to enable the female farmers earn appreciable incomes to cater for themselves and their dependents.
The “Grow Ghana Initiative” which started in 2022 when the Russian-Ukraine war resulted in the deficit supply of fertilizer worldwide, has so far seen to the free distribution of over 18,000 metric tonnes of fertilizers to farmers in Ghana.
The fertilizer distribution is estimated at USD 20 million, an increase in food production and improved cereal production enhancement of over 150,000 metric tonnes.
In an interview with the media on the sidelines of the closing ceremony to end the two-year successful Grow Ghana programme at the Koforidua Jubilee Park, the Country Manager of YARA Ghana, Theresah Randolph, indicated that the objective of the “Grow Ghana Initiative” was to increase productivity for small-holder farmers to strengthen the country’s food security.
