Former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Ebenezer Gilbert Nii Narh Tettey, has raised concerns about the politicization of important issues, particularly in the context of the LGBTQ debate in Ghana.
During an interview on Breakfast Daily on Citi TV with David Kweku Sakyi on Wednesday, Mr Tettey emphasized the need to address such issues without allowing political allegiances to influence decisions.
Mr. Tettey expressed his belief that focusing on politics could detract from addressing the core issue at hand.
He stated, “Sometimes, I always say that we always try to deviate on issues when we try to bring politics into it. This is a very serious issue that to me, I think that it should not be partisan. We should deal with the issue just as it is.
“But when we try to bring politics into it, then we’ll be referring and referring and I can tell you, we will not get to the substance of the issue.”
He cautioned against allowing the LGBTQ debate to become a contentious political issue between the NPP and NDC, as this could hinder progress and prevent a meaningful resolution.
Mr. Tettey emphasized the importance of discussing the issue objectively, regardless of political affiliations.
