The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor says the government is working to revitalise the Bogoso Prestea mine to ensure job security for the company’s employees.
Recently, workers from the Future Global Resources Bogoso-Prestea Mines staged a protest against the alleged mismanagement of the mine.
They argue that this has negatively impacted productivity and disrupted the workers’ payment systems.
In response to queries in Parliament in Accra on Tuesday, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, attributed the company’s downfall to Future Global Resources’ failure to invest the necessary capital into the Prestea Bogoso mine’s operations.
He assured that the government together with stakeholders were working to revamp the mine.
“The Ministry is working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the mine is revamped as soon as possible.”
“Mr Speaker, let me assure my good friend the honourable MP for Prestea Huni Valley, the chiefs and people of Prestea Huni Valley and this august house that just as we did with the Obuasi Mine which was put under care and maintenance and the Bibiani Mine which has been dormant for seven years, government will work to revamp the Prestea mine and secure the employment of its workers,” he said.
