Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng has disclosed that the government was forced to conduct a pregnancy test on Naa Okromo, the 15-year-old girl at the centre of Gbobu Wolomo marriage saga after rumours of suspected pregnancy surfaced.
Stephen Asamoah Boateng said the test was conducted to confirm or deny the rumours.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, April 18, Mr Boateng said the government did no wrong.
“So all the rumours you hear, we also hear. And just to cover the grounds, we have to do that. From our investigation, it was a rite to a deity, not to the man who is in front of the deity.
“But, of course, when we hear a rumour of a pregnancy and a possible marriage and our job as a government official is to cover all the angles, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we believe it, but we have to cover that and that is what we have done.”
