A circuit court in Accra has granted the Director of the Obengfo Hospital, Dr Dominic Obeng Andoh, bail of GHc 50,000 with two sureties.
The court granted the bail after his lawyer, Nana Kofi Bekoe, made an oral bail application for his release.
[contextly_sidebar id=”SMbtk19KqIjF7qSC7fsfQUsqgJ0Rocwz”]The Police arrested Dr Obeng-Andoh following the purported death of the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for National Entrepreneurship Innovation Programme (NEIP), Stacy Offei Darko, at the facility.
He was also arrested in December 2016, over suspicions of malpractice after the Medical and Dental Council said it had received several complaints from some persons who had patronised the facility.
The council closed down the facility in January last year for illegal surgical procedures.
The court has however adjourned the case to July 6.
According to the mother of the deceased, Nana Akosua Animah I, her 37-year-old daughter fell ill and sought medical attention at the Obengfo Hospital but died last Monday after her admission.
She said she was informed about her daughter’s death three days later.
Dr Obeng-Andoh was arrested with three other accomplices following the incident.
An Accra Magistrate court first denied them bail after their lawyers’ appeals on last week.
The Ghana Medical and Dental Council has said it is not to blame for the purported medical malpractice that may have caused the death.
The Council has seemingly laid the blame at the feet of law enforcement authorities.
The Registrar of the Council, Dr Eli Kwesi Atikpui, told Citi News the council is set to publish a report on their handling of activities of the centre.
This report is likely to contain correspondence with, among others, the current Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General’s office.
