The mass registration exercise for the Ghana Card in the Northern, Savannah and North East regions has ended today, October 30, 2019.
The deadline for the exercise was earlier extended from October 23, 2019 to today, to enable more applicants to register due to the challenges that have confronted the exercise.
Citi News, checks reveal that some applicants have been sleeping at the various centres for days just to register.
Residents, however, said the extension of the registration was not beneficial because their challenges were not addressed.
But, the National Identification Authority (NIA) has served notice that, it will conduct a mop-up registration exercise in these three regions from Friday, November 8 to Saturday, November 23, 2019.
In all, 200 Registration Centres will be operated across the three (3) regions as follows: Northern Region (111 centres), Savannah Region (48 centres) and North East Region (41 centres)
“Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who were unable to register during the mass registration exercise in the three regions and those who have not collected or been issued with their Ghana cards are entreated to go to the nearest registration centre during the said period”, a statement from the NIA said.
The Ghana card registration exercise in the Northern Regions was hampered by logistical challenges.
A number of applicants who visited the centres in the region to register were asked to come back the next day.
Apart from the late arrival of equipment, the residents complained that there was a problem with the coding of the homes.
The NIA later apologized for its failure to ensure a smooth registration.
