The founder and leader of the Lighthouse Chapel International, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills resigned from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral project in August 2022.
The reasons for his decision at the time were unknown.
In a resignation letter sighted by Citi News, the revered Bishop among other things expressed disappointment at the leadership of the National Cathedral for ignoring concerns he raised in several letters he wrote to them with the recent one being in June 2022 through the Ghana Charismatic Bishops’ Conference.
He said it is unfortunate that his letters over the last six years of the project have been received as an “aggravating annoyance” rather than” some help to the building of the Cathedral.”
He said he could not continue to function on the committee if his input is perceived as opposed to the cause.
“I am truly sorry to have come across as a stranger, an outsider, and a troublemaker. That has never been my intention, and thus I see even more of the need for my resignation at this time.”
Bishop Heward-Mills said it will be a great tragedy if “we are not able to accomplish this vision of the President by 2024. ”
“It would have been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we would have made to slip away over an eight-year period.”
He however added that he remains open, available, and willing to serve at the Pleasure of the President and the nation in the near future if there “there is more clarity to my role and function in the building of the Cathedral.”
“Regardless of your response to my resignation and inputs, I remain a supporter of the National Cathedral project and will endeavour to be present to rejoice with the nation when this project is completed,” he added.
