Former Attorney General Nii Ayikoi Otoo has urged the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, to take the independence of his office seriously.
This comes in the wake of the Special Prosecutor’s ‘public outburst’ regarding the judiciary’s dismissive rulings in corruption cases.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, November 29, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng expressed alarm at the “growing hasty dismissiveness and lack of regard” for corruption cases, which he believes could severely impede the OSP’s ability to fulfil its mandate.
Mr. Otoo, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, stated, “He (Kissi Agyebeng) should take his office seriously in terms of his independence.”
“You saw what Martin Amidu did. If you invite me, I won’t go, and if you try to pressurize me in any way, I will resign. I will just leave the office. You go and tell them that I am not going to resign, but ‘I am alone.’ What is all that?”
The former Attorney General further advised the Special Prosecutor to focus on carrying out his mandate.
“Do what we have asked you to do or why we pay you… Honestly, I am so disappointed,” he stated.
