The Minister of Trade and Industry, K.T. Hammond, says he will liaise with the Finance Minister to ensure that tax waivers offered under the One District One Factory (1D1F) policy are scrutinized.
The Ranking Member on the Trade and Industry Committee of Parliament, Yussif Sulemana, accused the government of seeking to grant tax waivers amounting to over GHS12 billion to cronies in the trade industry under the pretext of incentive packages for the 1D1F initiative.
Reacting to the assertion in Accra on Wednesday, K.T. Hammond said the tax exemption requests would be scrutinized to ascertain entities that seek to abuse the system.
“Well, let’s see the logic in this argument. I will have a good look at the figures. I will get the Minister of Finance to sit down, sanitize the figures, and see where it ends up,” he said.
Mr. Hammondalso used the opportunity to urge traders to take into consideration the stability of the economy and ensure the reduction of prices of food items during the Christmas festivities.
