Lawyers representing the parliamentary aspirant for the Bimbilla constituency, Ahmed Zaruk Nuhu, have submitted a petition to the National Elections Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) seeking a lasting solution to the impasse in the constituency.
They allege interference by both constituency and regional executives, citing unfairness in the management of the process.
Alhaji Zaruk’s name was missing when the list for vetting was released, causing anger among his supporters in the constituency who damaged party property.
However, he has successfully filed his nominations at the constituency level to contest the incumbent, Dominic Nitiwul.
In a petition dated January 7, 2024, he instructed his lawyers to appeal to the national executives to henceforth bar the regional chairman and the constituency executives from the process.
Alhaji Zaruk is appealing to NEC to ensure that, “Our Client is unconditionally added to the successful candidates for the election of the parliamentary candidate for the Bimbilla Constituency for the purposes of the 2024 Parliamentary Elections (with or without the endorsement on the Contractual Agreement). To remove Chairman Samba and his followers from the Bimbilla electoral processes forthwith, and compel them to cease from interfering directly or otherwise in any way or form in the Bimbilla parliamentary elections. To restrain the Constituency Executives (in particular, the Secretary and Chairman) from dealing in any way with the Bimbilla parliamentary elections.”
