President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphasized the need for a shared understanding of Ghanaian values and their transmission to all generations.
He made these remarks at the 67th Independence Day celebration in Koforidua on Wednesday, expressing concern that many parents have handed over the entire task of child upbringing to schools.
“I do not refer only to our music, dance, food, language and fashion that form the basis of our cultural identity; I refer to the values that set us apart as Ghanaians,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of holistic child development, President Akufo-Addo pointed out that preparing a child to face the world involves more than what is taught in classrooms, and moulding a Ghanaian child extends beyond the daily tasks of teachers.
In this context, he noted, “If we are to take pride in being Ghanaian, there should be a consensus on the values we hold dear, and we should transmit them to every generation.”
