Broadcaster and showbiz personality Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD has been mauled by some social media users for a statement he made about John Dumelo’s wife.
KOD had expressed excitement over his invitation to actor John Dumelo’s wedding, suggesting that John’s fiancée, Gifty Mawunya Nkornu was beautiful, quiet and reclusive – qualities he purported make a woman a good ‘marriage material.’
He went ahead to advise women who wanted to be wives of celebrities not to be “all over” but to learn from Gifty.
“Got me wondering why most men in the public eye settle for quiet/unknown women and not the ones all over. That could be a lesson for some of our sisters ooo. Men want women who can make a home and not be all over,” KOD wrote on social media.
This comment has generated divergent opinions and reactions from the general public, especially female celebrities.
Yvonne Okoro, a popular actress in Ghana replied to KOD’s post, condemning him for stereotyping an ideal woman-for-marriage with Gifty.
She said men and women choose who they want to live their lives with based on different factors.
“I pray that young women would be raised to believe that they can achieve their dreams (working hard, and being KNOWN) and being also the perfect bride for some man one day, this goes for the man too,” she wrote.
Yvonne also noted that KOD could simply have congratulated John Dumelo without comparing his wife to other women.
“Kofi, @nineteen57bykod you could have congratulated the couple without needlessly denigrating other women. Who a man chooses to be with is a matter of personal preference and vice versa for women too. As you clearly believe that women should make all their life choices with marriage always being at the forefront of their minds, you should preach the same to men,” she added.
She also noted: “PS-A quiet and unknown woman does not equate a happy and successful marriage.I know many KNOWN women that are working hard and are all over the place yet great wives and mothers too!!”
Apart from Yvonne Okoro, other celebrities including Lydia Forson, Sandra Ankobea, Juliet Ibrahim have also bashed KOD for his comment.
John Dumelo he is getting married today (12th May, 2018) in a private ceremony at Spintex in Accra.
His fiancée, Gifty Mawunya Nkornu is a close friend to actress Nadia Buari.
John Dumelo has acted in movies such as ‘Baby Thief,’ ‘Men in Love,’ ‘Northern Affair,’ ‘Heart of Men’, among others.
